This is a cut-away of a quick-change gearbox used in 300/400HP heavyweight vehicles with mechanical and pneumatic control. It is a non-synchronized gearbox, which is divided into 2 parts:
1. On the engine side, there are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, reverse and extra low ratio pick-up gears. All these gears are mechanically controlled by the change gear lever.
2. On the other side, on the output shaft side, there are the standard, low ratio and semi-low ratio gears, pneumatically controlled by the pre-selector provided on the gear lever. This product is a cut-away representing a gearbox often found in heavy-duty vehicles (industrial and military). This gearbox with transfer case has two constant mesh gear pairs instead of one (normal constant mesh gear pair and constant mesh geared-down pair) which are located between the main shaft and transmission shaft. The two gear pairs have different ratios and are fitted so as to alternately engage each other. This gearbox is also called gearbox with selector since (via the suitable lever and after disengaging the clutch) it is possible to select the fastest or geared-down constant mesh pair. The presence of the transfer case doubles the number of gears of the gearbox to which it is applied and allows the engine power to adjust according to the required effort.
