The Bomb Calorimeter is a precision scientific instrument used to determine the calorific value
(gross heat of combustion) of solid and liquid fuels, such as coal, petroleum products, food items,
and biofuels. It operates by combusting a known mass of sample in a sealed chamber (the “bomb”)
surrounded by a known quantity of water. The rise in water temperature is measured to calculate
the energy content of the sample.
